Our multi-age studios are designed to foster a sense of true community and serve learners ages 5-18.
Our parents agree to abide by a contract in which they commit to be lifelong learners and to support their children on their Hero's Journeys. The biggest challenge for parents is to allow their children to face and overcome their own obstacles and failures, like any good Hero. We are a safe place for children to "fail forward" and learn the valuable and necessary skills of conflict resolution, self-advocacy, responsibility, humility, and grit. We may ask parents to voluntarily participate in family work days to help enrich and improve our campus environment.
We are not a religious school. We are a safe community for learners to explore faith as part of their and others' Hero's Journeys.
We respect and incorporate Maria Montessori’s philosophy, however, we are not a Montessori school. We also utilize the latest in adaptive learning technology, hands-on projects, self-governance, and the Socratic Method with an emphasis on character development through the narrative of the Hero's journey.
Explorer, Catalyst, Launch Pad learners use Journey Tracker to track learning. Sparks utilize Seesaw to send updates and lead personalized learning tours for their families each session.
We are accredited by the International Association of Learner-Driven Schools.
We are not trained nor staffed to serve children with serious learning disabilities, special needs, or who require specialized attention due to behavioral/emotional and/or medical challenges. Some children with ADHD, Dyslexia, or on the Autism Spectrum do very well in an Acton environment. These learners will be considered on a trial basis to give us the chance to observe the child's ability to work alone, with a group, participate in discussions, and respect the safety and well-being of all learners in our studio. At the end of this trial, we will determine if Lighthouse International is indeed the be the best educational fit for the child.
